Para este año, la colección reconoce a un ámplio rango de singles y albumes de al menos 25 años de antiguedad con un significado cualitativo o histórico. Cada año las grabaciones son revisadas por un miembro especial de un comité de profesionales eminentes y sabios de todas las ramas del arte de la grabación, con una aprobación final de The Recording Academy's National Board of Trustees.
