Okay, here's what happened...
I was shopping in a bookstore yesterday here in Los Angeles, browsing around, when I looked up and suddenly saw a vibrant head of white hair across the shop from me. I moved closer, getting a better look, and to my surprise it was Tom Mesereau! I was like... Oh, my God... it's T-MEZ! I didn't know what to do at first... Should I bother him on an obvious weekend break? Or should I go talk to the man that helped to save Michael Jackson's life? Well, after a short debate in my spinning head, it was obvious.
I had to talk to him.
Tom moved upstairs to look at some law books, when I finally took a deep breath and made my move, approaching him.
ME: Excuse me, Mr. Mesereau?
He turned, looking right at me. He is very tall, with an open and extremely kind face. He smiled.
T-MEZ: Yes?
ME: Hi, my name is Mark -----.
He reached out and took my hand, shaking it firmly.
T-MEZ: Hi, Mark.
ME: I'm so sorry to bug you but I just wanted to thank you for what you did for Michael Jackson. Thank you so much for everything you did.
Tom smiled broadly.
T-MEZ: Oh, you're so welcome. It was a pleasure, really... He is such a wonderful guy.
ME: I just love that family and Michael so much, and I'm so happy that he had you to defend him.
T-MEZ: It really is amazing how many fans he has all over the world, just millions everywhere...
ME: That trial was such a monumental scam.
T-MEZ: Yes, it was.
ME: Anyone who truly knows Michael knows he isn't even CAPABLE of thinking about what they said he did to that family.
T-MEZ: (laughing) It was absolutely ridiculous. You're right, the man would NEVER think or do what they accused him of. He is such an amazing person...
ME: And Tom Sneddon is such a snake...
T-MEZ: (smiling) Yes, he is. And the coverage of the trial was just as bad. ESPECIALLY Court TV...
ME: Don't get me started on Nancy Grace and Diane Dimond...
Tom smiled from ear to ear.
T-MEZ: She has a book coming out next week. Can't WAIT to read what she writes about me...
ME: YOU should write a book and tell the truth of what happened!
T-MEZ: I probably will. Next year some time... The media... they just love to build people up then tear them right down...
ME: And Michael should come out and do an interview, too! Finally tell his side!
T-MEZ: He is seriously thinking about it...
ME: Good! I hope he does!
T-MEZ: I gotta tell you, I have never seen such a target in my life...
ME: I know. It's disgusting...
T-MEZ: Susan Lu, my partner, and I are still representing Michael on pending cases...
ME: All that Mark Shaffel crap...?
T-MEZ: Yes, that's right. As you know, Michael's out of the country.
ME: Yes.
T-MEZ: And he might never come back...
ME: Hell, I wouldn't!
T-MEZ: You can certainly understand if he doesn't...
ME: And what about that bullshit case in New Orleans?
T-MEZ: Yes, that's still moving forward...
ME: I can't BELIEVE that!
T-MEZ: I know... unbelievable... It never ends...
At this point, I realized we had been chatting for a few minutes, and I wanted to leave the man alone.
ME: Well, sorry for bugging you, but I just had to come over and say hello...
He took my hand again, shaking it.
T-MEZ: No, it was my pleasure.
ME: Again, thank you so much for what you did for Michael. You were amazing. Really... Keep up the good work!
He smiled and I reached out, patting his shoulder. Then, I turned and left the man to shop. I have to say, he was such a polite and nice man it is so easy to see why jurors love him like they do. So real. So approachable.
Unlike that OTHER lawyer representing the state of CA.
So, that's my story... I hope it wasn't too long for you, my friends. I just wanted to share the story of the day I got to tell the man who saved Michael Jackson's life thank you.
And I'm so thankful myself that I had the chance to do so...
