Journalist: So Michael Jackson is returning to his hometown Gary, Indiana. It's his first trip back in almost 20 years, and one of the stops for the King of Pop is Roosevelt High School. Joining us now from Gary, Indiana is the principal of Roosevelt High School, Marion Williams. Mr. Willams it is nice to talk to you. Mr. Williams what does it mean to have Mr. Jackson there today?
Mr. Willaims: It's a great day in Gary, Indiana. This is the first time that Michael has returned to the city in 20 years. We have a 1000 students in our audotorium awaiting his arrival, very eager and very excited to have Michael back here in Indiana.
Journalist: Mr. Willams, I don't have to tell you that Michael Jackson is quite a controversial figure these days. Was there any thought given that maybe Michael Jackson is not the kind of role model that you want to put out there for your students?
Mr. Williams: Well there are kinds of things that Michael has exemplified and we are very proud of... he has exemplified some of the attributes in the area of the arts that we are very proud of. So therefore, we here in Gary, Indiana and here at Roosevelt are proud of his accomplishments.
Journalist: We can understand that, but there have been alot of aweful strange things that he has been doing over the last couple of months from the dangling of his son over that hotel balcony and the comments he has made about likening to share his bed with young boys. What was the response to all that in Gary, Indiana? Obviously, alot of people very toured (?) because on one hand, they are proud of him, but this is weird stuff. Isn't it sir?
Mr. Williams: Well, we like to remain, uh, positive about the music here. One of the areas we are constantly concentrating on at Gary Roosevelt is the arts. So, therefore, so we continue to look upon him as a person who has made contributions in that area.
Journalist: Sir, I have read about your many accomplishments, I got a bio of you before I had the opportunity to speak with you today, and you've had successes in a wide variety of areas, from the radio business to real estate, as an educator, of course, the principal of a fine high school there in Gary. What kind of advice would you give to Michael Jackson to get his career and his life back on track?
Mr. Williams: Well the one thing we're hoping that Michael will do today is to look at the list of items that we would like for him to assist us in. And we have one of the finest art centers in Gary, Indiana. And we would like to speak with him about some contributions that possibly he could make to making this a first class facility in Gary, Indiana.
Journalist: Well, we wish you the very best with that sir. Marion Williams, the principal of Roosevelt High in Gary, Indiana. Thanks for talking to us today
Mr. Willams: Thank you.
