Hello, I am working on a This Is It related project. The project being a complete mix of the 2009 rehearsals as to the best of my knowledge, I will also be doing some fan-made songs I would have added to the setlist(I can post those later in this post). I have finished about half of the tracks and I want to take some input regarding mixing choices:
1. For Wanna Be Starting Something, should I filter vocals from the film and then use studio vocals on the extra verse from the Sugarfoot instrumental, or should I do just studio vocals for the entire song
2. For the Drill, should I use the movie audio or recreate it entirely?
3. For the Jackson 5 Medley, specifically IWYB should I filter an instrumental and use different concert vocals or leave them untouched?
4. For the OTW medley, should I include Off The Wall as part of the official medley, or have it in the bonus part?
5. For Dirty Diana, should I use filtered live vocals and pitch them to get a closer match to Michael's voice from 2009, or just use pitched studio vocals?
6. For Beat It, should I use filtered vocals from the Victory tour (they match the ones from the film) or should I use the studio vocals and then use the film vocals after the guitar solo?
7. Should I try to make thriller sound live, or playback?
8. I've concluded that the Heal the world used in the film is a heavily edited and shortened version of what was in the rehearsals, should I edit in the bridge into the rehearsals, and then the typical ending heal the world has, or should I leave it as it is?
9. For YANA, should I mix it to sound live, or just have the typical playback until the end, and at the end breakdown, should I filter vocals from a pre-existing concert, or should I use studio vocals?
10. Should I extend Man In The Mirror to have 2 breakdowns (like on previous tours) and/or should I add the MJ air ending
11. Should I pitch down Stranger in Moscow? Or leave it as it is?
12. Should I take the ending vocals for TWYMMF from the film, or filter them from another concert/ rehearsal?
- For filtering vocals, if the vocals aren't already clear before any filtering happens, the quality will be significantly worse than if I used studio vocals
- Any TII vocals will come from the center channel, so those vocals quality won't drop significantly if I filter them but there will be some quality loss for some songs
- If you have any recommendations for where to take vocals from, or how to mix a song feel free to say!
Here are the fan-made songs I've chosen: History, Childhood, You Rock My World, In The Closet, Liberian Girl, Blood on the Dancefloor, Bad, Morphine
