The Truth behind the stories, sony vs mj, from sony employee
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, this took alot of getting hold of but is true from what i can tell.
back in 93 sony wanted to drop michael after the allegations, the heads of sony sore no way of michael returning to former glories and with sponsors drying up there was not many avenues to go. however many of michaels friends in the business world brought michael to asian and korean business men who were happy to fund any of michaels whimes, however this would further anoy sony investors who were mostly japanese. this again pushed further on sony heads to rid the company of michael and the stigma of weirdness connected with him.
if was arranged that sony would fund the new album, history while investors would fund the tour. if a success was made another album would be released. however the album was classed as a non success in final terms for sony. sales now days dont come into it if the money spent out does not get repaid and then get doubled there after.
michael was also unhappy due to how he was seen by the public and media. and wanted somthing done about it. sony and michael went into talks of a new album. however michale wanted time off to be with his children and rest from the last few years. however sony felt they not only needed to save face with michael and their contract together but also rid themselves of michael faster. so sony and michael talked about a new album. but due ot the fact michael owed sony three more releases, and sony was not prepared to spend the time waiting of spending out without the gurantee's of sales and revenue it once had not to mention the need to please investors. they wanted to renegotiate the contract.
so it was rewritten that the re-releases would be put out that would be included as one release. this would also bridge the ever extending gap til the new album plus a greatest hits package after the release of invincible. something that michael did not want to do but would finally rid hin of his contract with sony.
unfortuntly during the recordings of invincible, sony got increasing impatient over michaels need to take so long over the new project. and severla times michael was contacted by tommy motola and meetings took place to answer the question on why it took so long and how much longer it would take. michael even recieved several dressing downs by sony execs, which pissed michael off he was heard on one ocassion on the phone talking to his liz taylor im told saying "how can they treat me like this. dont they know how important i am"
at one point a package was put together and a listening session was given, but unfortunatly investors and execs were unhappy with the results and told michael to go back and work to a strict time schedule for re-recordings.
in total 4 tracks were added. 2 discarded supposedly.
however this need for more time angered investors more and more. and when michael made a move to buy certain songs from another publishing from under sonys feet, they were not pleased as sony was also bidding on these songs. (note, i do not know the tracks being mentioned)
also when time was booked for studio sessions and artists booked , michael would be reported or word would get back to sony that michael was in another country of at neverland and hadnt bother showing up.
most of this information was being leaked back to michael, and he knew of the growing dissatisfaction from sonys part.
this angered michael more and made him work slower.
the final straw came when the tapes that had been worked on were ordered to the sony offices without michaels knowledge or any of the producers or engineers on the project. a few days later "u rock my world" was leaked to several stations and on the internet. michael was livid. and aked it to be stopped. nothing could be done and the timing was completly wrong, michael was not ready for the video and he truly wanted unbreakable to be a larger first release with an amazing video to accompany it. michael was rushed into production while still recovering from what seemed some kind of non bruising surgery. the period of production was tight and michael ended up re editing the video 4/5 times after release.
the true release was meant to be two months after the september shows with two singles being released first. unbreakable and butterflies followed by rock my world and others to follow and michael wanted big and best videos for all. a invinicble dvd was also planned but later shelved.
michael did agree to tour, especially again telling execs after his concert with his brothers that he wanted to do somthing with them but sony did not want to put money into releasing the jacksons album aswell as michaels plus put together the entire reunion package. which would have costed millions.
michael was displeased with all that had happened so far. but the contract with michael stated michael must have atleast 5 singles released in format.
so sony continued to allow radio play of
1, u rock my world
2, cry
3, butterflies
4, heaven cant wait
5, unbreakable
these songs were all leaked and allowed limited play. until a phone arguement with one of the execs possibly tommy, where michael ended up refusing to tour and refused to appear in the cry video. at which point sony then had a meeting to planned what to do next and it was decided not to put out any further songs from invincible nor would they allow michael tracks from the past 15 years to be played on a selected list of stations. word got back to michael and again michael was livid.
and the story started from there.
if this is true then im glad i got the info for you all, if its not then so be it but it makes an interesting read, take in mind this is from a sony employee, no names will be given out.

1. MJ is working for a new album (that you already knew for sure)...
He has been written new songs for it already 6 months.
A NEW ALBUM IS IN THE WORKS AND WILL BE RELEASED WITHIN 18 MONTHS, MICHAEL IS NOT ALLOWED TO RELEASE ANYTHING TIL AFTER THE RELEASE OF THE GREATEST HITS PACKAGE
That album is going to be a re-release of Invincible!! It's price is
going to be lower than the original Invincible and 2-3 songs from the
original Invincible will be changed. At least You Rock My World and
Cry. Most probably only those songs. So MJ is now writing those
remaining songs for the new album.
TOTAL RUBBISH!!!!
2. The new album is going to be out at least before the next summer!
But maybe already before Christmas 2002. (Just remember what is
happened before with those release dates.)
ANSWERED ABOVE
3. MICHAEL JACKSON BOUGHT HIS OWN RECORD LABEL for that $500m! I'm
unfortunately don't know what's or is going to be the name of that
label.
THE $500 MILLION, WELL THIS IS NOT FOR ME TO MAKE PUBLIC, IT WILL BE TOLD SOON ENOUGH.
There are few other quite a big artist coming under that label asap,
too.
NOT TRUE!!!
4. MJ knew already in the May 2001 that Invincible will be his last
album under Sony. He also knew that Sony is not going to promote it
very well and that he is later able to re-release any material that
remains unreleased from Invincible.
PARTLY TRUE, THE RE-RELEASING PART IS NOT TRUE.
5. Sony didn't prevent MJ to perform in those Award Ceremonies this
year. It was MJ's own decision. He just didn't want to be a part of
the promotion that already was noticed bad.
PARTLY TRUE, MICHAEL WAS PREVENTED FROM PERFORMING DUE TO CONTRACTS HE SIGNED MONTHS BEFORE THE ALBUM RELEASE. THEN SONY PREVENTED HIM FROM PERFORMING ANY OF THE NEW TRACK DUE TO THIS CONTRACT. BUT MICHAEL ALSO CHOOSE NOT TO TOUR OR PERFORM AT ANY OTHER AWARDS HE WAS DUE TO ATTEND AND PERFORM.
6. MJ's next solo single release will be Unbreakable, but if the What
More Can I Give project will come true (it's in hold now), What More
Can I Give will be before Unbreakable.
WMCIG WILL BE RELEASED DEFINATLY. NOT ON SONY LABEL THOUGH. UNBREAKABLE WILL NOT GET RELEASED. FROM WHATS BEEN SAID.
7. MJ is not going to plan to tour this time.
MICHAEL TOUR BUT NOT TIL NEXT YEAR.
8. MJ has finally left Sony Music completely. But there are still some
legal issues going on.
TRUE, BUT OBVIOUS.
9. Michael is not going to promote the upcoming GH under Epic any kind
of way. He just gives two outtakes for it and that's all.
TRUE.
