Mohamed Al Fayed era amigo del fallecido cantante, por lo que erigirán el reconocimiento afuera del estadio del club que preside.
El presidente del equipo de fútbol británico Fulham FC, Mohamed Al Fayed, anunció que el próximo 3 de abril se revelará, a las afueras del estadio del equipo en Craven Cottage, una estatua en memoria del difunto cantante Michael Jackson.
Así lo anuncia el sitio web del Club Deportivo, en donde añaden que, en la escultura, se verá al intérprete de Thriller haciendo una de "sus poses más icónicas".
"Michael Jackson fue, realmente, una leyenda", señala Al Fayed mediante un comunicado publicado en el sitio web. Y agrega que "él era mi amigo, un hombre con quien compartí muchos recuerdos felices, y quien murió una muerte trágica".
Según el presidente del equipo británico, Jackson "dejó un legado musical tan vasto que le quita a uno el aliento, desde un precoz talento hasta una ingenuidad y modernidad que nunca podrá repetirse".

Con el objetivo de honrar esta amistad que existía entre ambos, la estatua será revelada a mediodía, en medio de una ceremonia en honor al artista.
FULHAM are to erect a commemorative statue of the late Michael Jackson at Craven Cottage, at the behest of chairman Mohamed Al Fayed.
Al Fayed, who was a close friend of Michael Jackson, commissioned a statue in memory of the pop icon following his death in 2009.
It was originally planned to be placed outside Al Fayed’s Harrods store, but following the sale of the Knightsbridge landmark, he decided it should be situated at Craven Cottage.
The statue, depicting Jackson in one of his most iconic poses, will stand on the banks of the River Thames, adjacent to the stadium’s Riverside and Hammersmith stands.
Jackson did visit Craven Cottage as a guest of Al Fayed, who told his club’s website: “Michael Jackson was truly a legend, a term used too often in this modern world saturated in the hyperbole surrounding celebrity.
“He was my friend, a man with whom I shared many happy memories and who died a tragic and untimely death.

“He left behind a legacy of music so vast it takes one’s breath away – from a precocious talent to an ingenuity and ground-breaking modernity that shall never be repeated.
“It shall often be imitated, but it will never be replicated.
“Michael Jackson was, and shall always remain, one of a kind.
“I hope that many fans of his will visit the statue at the Cottage from far and wide and that Fulham fans, the finest in the world, will appreciate seeing the finest performer in the world in and among them ”
The statue will be unveiled on Sunday, April 3, before the game against Blackpool.
