Celebrities rally to Michael Jackson's Defense
In the wake of the recent allegations that have been leveled at Michael Jackson, many stars have registered their support for him.
Celebrities such as Alicia Keys and Missy Elliot have backed the King of Pop and prominent activist Reverend Jesse Jackson has raised "grave concerns" over the prosecutors' handling of the case, branding a huge raid on his home as "overkill".
Included below are the views of the many celebrities that have spoken out in support of Michael Jackson in the past week:
"I feel offended by the way the media is handling a man who really has been a major force in American culture since the day he was born, virtually. And I really think he deserves much more respect than he's getting right now....I hope this settles over..... I believe that the truth is gonna come to light."
Keys was especially troubled by Wednesday's press conference announcing the allegations, where Santa Barbara District Attorney Tom Sneddon often answered questions in a rather lighthearted manner,
"Why Is The DA smiling?." "It's not funny," she said. "This is someone's life, and I don't think he should be reduced to a joke. He's far more than that."
- Alicia Keys speaking at the recent Vibe awards
"The Media is superpowerful, incredibly powerful. But at the end of the day, it's about evidence. Where's the evidence? I'm a fan. I support him a hundred zillion percent. Until I see evidence, I'm not going to be convinced. I'm not going to be brainwashed."
"I mean, when you get to the point where you give someone a $3 million bail, [that's ridiculous]," the rapper scoffed. "I mean, people hit court with 50 kilos of cocaine and don't get $3 million bail. Murders don't get $3 million bails."
- LL Cool J speaking at the recent Vibe awards
"He's my biggest influence so that's why I'm very defensive, I'm ready to fight about Michael Jackson, so we pray to God he didn't do it, 'cause I might go to jail trying to defend him."
- Missy Elliott speaking at the Vibe awards
"I think that DA was a little immature and inappropriate with his comments,"
"He should be a little more professional."
- Kelly Osbourne speaking at the Vibe awards about the press conference held by the Santa Barbara District Attorney Tom Sneddon announcing the charges against Michael Jackson
In a statement, Elizabeth Taylor declared that the 'King of Pop' would be vindicated and accused the Press of behaving "abominably". Elizabeth said, "he is absolutely innocent" of child molestation charges.
She said of the press, "Their whole reaction is that he is guilty. I thought the law was 'innocent until proven guilty. I know he is innocent and I hope they all eat crow."

"In The Months Of Investigating Michael’s personal life, I came to no conclusion whatsoever that he was a child molester and todays events haven't changed that"
- Louis Theroux speaking on BBC Radio 2 on the day that Neverland Ranch was searched by police
"I know Michael to be a fine person. I'm hoping that whatever this is, the truth will come out and he'll be vindicated."
- Motown founder Barry Gordy, who has known Michael for over 30 years, speaking to ET online
"I know his children, he's been so wonderful to my kids, I've been with him with a lot of kids so I have no idea what this is about, but I'm sure he will prevail."
- Debbie Allen speaking to ET online on what a wonderful father she feels Michael is.
"I think it's nightmarish, and I don't know how you're supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. My heart bleeds for the guy. They've all got him guilty and I don't buy it personally."
- Scottish actor Billy Connolly expressing his thoughts during an interview with ET online.
"I am sick and f**king tired of everybody saying these things about my family. "We will fight and we will stand up and everybody who knows this family around the world will support us because, at the end of the day, this is nothing but a modern-day lynching. "This is what they want to see - him in handcuffs! You got it! But it won't be for long, I promise you."
- Jermaine Jackson expressing his views about the accusations leveled against his brother on a CNN phone in show.
"This DA has a vendetta against Michael because he didn't get him 10 years ago."
- Comic Steve Harvey, who feels there's something amiss in the police investigation of Michael's home. Harvey fears the timing of the raid smacks of something sinister, and he thinks Santa Barbara District Attorney Tom Sneddon, who oversaw the last Jackson child molestation investigation a decade ago, is out to get him before he retires. - Wenn International music news
"These accusations are clearly lies, they are untrue."
"If Michael's guilty of anything, it's the Peter Pan syndrome, the same thing I'm guilty of ... the same thing a lot of people are guilty of. We do not want to grow up. We do not want to get old. We love children."
- Rick James - Tesco.net
"The way they are treating my man, following him, stalking him, the media, everybody... seems like the devil is heavily at work,"
- Sean Combs (P. Diddy) speaking of the treatment of Michael Jackson by the world media - Tesco.net
"I grew up with him and I've spent a lot of time at Neverland and nothing has ever happened with me in any way."
"You have to look at both sides. I do think it is very convenient that his album came out and all this stuff is happening. I definitely do think that's very convenient. ... It really hurts me to see that his whole life is ruined."
- Nicole Richie, daughter of R&B singer Lionel Richie and god daughter of Michael Jackson speaking at the recent Vibe awards about her belief that the charges stem from people trying to bring Michael down on the day that he released his new album, Number Ones.
"I have to recognize the fact that there are two sides to every story, and I've always been one person to say, 'Who are we to judge?"
"There only is one judge."
The singer also added that her thoughts were with Michael's three children.
"This is something I think they are going to have to hear about their dad as children now and as adults later," she said. "That's the more unfair part. My prayers go out to both sides until the truth is told."
- Monica - speaking at the Vibe awards.
"Michael Jackson's been dogged for things for the last 10 years or more,"
"I think it's really hard when you become that big of an artist and you've been at the top, it's like, where else do you go? I feel sorry for him because I think the genius of his music is getting lost in a lot of the scandal and controversy, but the man is human."
- Vibe's Emil Wilbekin
"I don't know what to think, I don't have enough information,"
"I just pray for him, and I pray for everyone involved."
- Quincy Jones producer of the Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad albums - Associated Press
"One bad thing after another is happening to him and that's a shame, because I love him and I love his music."
- Kevin Richardson of the Backstreet Boys - Associated Press
Reverend Jesse Jackson, one of the America's most prominent activists, said the allegations were serious but that Michael deserved a fair trial in a court of law, not in the media.
He slammed the dramatic search swoop on Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch near Santa Barbara by up to 70 officers with "some in flak jackets -- accompanied by doctors and an ambulance. This is overkill."
Reverend Jackson also denounced as "completely inappropriate" District Attorney Tom Sneddon's making jokes as he announced that an arrest warrant had been issued.
"The allegations brought against Michael Jackson are very serious and regardless of the outcome, there will be no winners in this case," he said.
"In closing, Michael deserves due process, the newsrooms should remain objective and the global community must not hasten to judgement."
