In the singles chart, X Factor winner Matt Cardle’s When We Collide looks certain to retain the number one spot after outselling its nearest rival by a margin of three to one.
And although she might miss out on a number one debut, Katy B feat. Ms Dynamite’s Lights On (Columbia) is on course for an impressive showing at number two, ahead of Rihanna feat. Drake¹s What’s My Name (Def Jam), Black Eyed Peas’ The Time (Dirty Bit) (Interscope) and Ellie Goulding’s Your Song (Polydor).
In a depressed week for single sales overall, the only tracks to post week-on-week rises in chart’s upper reaches ¬ (bar Katy B and Ms Dynamite’s sole new entry) are The Pogues feat. Kirsty MacColl’s Fairytale Of New York and Tinie Tempah feat. Kelly Rowland’s Invincible, which is poised to return to the top 20
Albums
The race for the Christmas number one single may over for this year, but last-minute gift-buyers are giving the albums market a huge boost in the final days before the festive break.
Early retail reports indicate sales of Take That¹s Progress passed the 90,000 mark over the last two days. This tally pushes sales of the album, already 2010¹s biggest-seller, beyond the 1.5m mark after less than six weeks at retail.
Another beneficiary of the last-minute rush is Michael Buble, whose Reprise-released Crazy Love is selling 40% more copies than at this stage last week and is likely to remain in the top three of 2010’s final albums chart, below Rihanna’s Loud.
After getting off to a slow start last week, Michael Jackson’s Epic- and posthumous-released Michael continues to under-perform: it is destined course to slip out of the albums top five this Sunday with sales plummeting by more than 50% week-on-week.
