Noticia de la ABC (abcnews.go.com)

LOS OLIVOS, Calif. Dec. 20 — Friends and relatives of Michael Jackson descended on his Neverland Ranch on Saturday to show their support for the entertainer who is fighting child molestation charges.
The private gathering behind the gates of the sprawling estate was described as a homecoming for Jackson, who has kept a low profile in Las Vegas and undisclosed locations since surrendering to authorities on Nov. 20 and being released on $3 million bail.

"This event is to show Michael that he has the love and support of his friends and family," Jackson's spokesman Stuart Backerman told reporters outside the estate.

The gathering entitled "You Are Not Alone" after a Jackson song drew about 600 people, including celebrities such as tennis star Serena Williams, rapper MC Hammer, comedian Eddie Griffin and "American Idol" host and DJ Ryan Seacrest.

More than 450 cars entered the main gate of the estate. Fans ran up to a black Mercedes that carried two people who appeared to be Jackson's parents.

About 20 reporters staked out the gate, along with a dozen fans. One sign pasted on a car read, "Michael is innocent!! Leave him alone!!"

Sheree Wilkins, 32, of Inglewood, said she was contacted Thursday by an assistant to Katherine Jackson, the pop star's mother, about attending Saturday's gathering.

"That's Michael's style. When he wants to say thanks, he does it big and invites the people who care about him," said Wilkins, who has visited the Neverland compound several times before.

Jackson was charged Thursday with seven counts of performing lewd or lascivious acts upon a child under 14 and two counts of administering an intoxicating agent. He maintains his innocence.

Jackson was looking forward to thanking people who have stood by him, said Brian Oxman, a lawyer and Jackson friend who planned to attend Saturday's gathering.

"It's for family and friends to say thank you from Michael to people he loves and who have supported him," Oxman said. "It's not a party. It's not a pep rally. It's not hoopla or celebration."

Jackson soon will travel to England to fulfill unspecified contractual obligations. There have been reports he will be promoting his latest CD, "Number Ones," which is doing better in the United Kingdom than it is in the United States.

Mark Beaumont, a staff writer at music magazine NME, said he doesn't expect a rapturous welcome for Jackson if he goes ahead with his visit to England.

"There will always be the hardcore fans but that is a relatively small group now and people are becoming more suspicious," Beaumont said.

Michael Jackson de fiesta en Neverland

21211a1.jpg

Jackson Supporters Attend Neverland Party
Sat December 20, 2003 08:43 PM ET
By Andrew Morse

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A steady stream of well-wishers made their way to Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch on Saturday afternoon as the embattled King of Pop hosted a holiday party that was overshadowed by charges he sexually molested a young boy.

Television networks showed a procession of cars, including sleek stretch limousines, entering the ranch, located in the foothills above California's Santa Barbara beach community.

The party, announced by Jackson representatives on Friday, marks the first time the singer has returned to his ranch since being arrested last month. Jackson, who has been released on $3 million bail, was charged on Thursday with molesting an unidentified young boy.

Spokesmen for Jackson, who told the media on Friday that 300 people were expected to attend what was characterized as a holiday party to thank his supporters, were not returning media phone calls on Saturday.

"It's more or less just to support Michael and a homecoming," his spokesman, Stuart Backerman, said Friday.

Backerman said friends of Jackson were throwing the party and that most of his large family would be there :D.

The 45-year-old entertainer has largely been in seclusion since police raided the ranch in November looking for evidence. After the party he is expected to travel to Britain for a vacation, though he will have to be back in Santa Barbara by Jan. 16 for his arraignment.

Jackson is charged with seven "lewd acts" on a boy under the age of 14. Court papers said those acts involved "substantial sexual conduct."

If found guilty, Jackson could go to prison for more than 20 years and would be required to register as a sex offender under California laws.

The charges, which come about a decade after the entertainer faced similar accusations, has prompted a slew of celebrities to voice support for Jackson, though none were seen arriving for the party.

Jackson's family and his celebrity lawyer, Mark Geragos, say he his innocent. Geragos has accused many involved in the case with improprieties and predicted the entertainer would be cleared.

Family, Friends Attend Support Party for Michael Jackson

Hundreds of celebrities, relatives and friends of pop singer Michael Jackson have gathered at his Neverland Ranch to show support for him as he faces charges of child molestation.
On Saturday, television networks showed a procession of cars, including sleek stretch limousines, entering the ranch, located in the foothills above California's Santa Barbara beach community.

Party organizers said around 600 supporters showed up. They said the party featured free carnival rides, access to an animal petting zoo and a movie theater.

Among the guests were tennis star Serena Williams, rap singer M.C. Hammer :cuñao, Jackson's parents and his sister Latoya, former Boy Band members Nick and Aaron Carter, and television host Ryan Seacrest. It is unclear if any children were present.

Jackson's spokesman, Stuart Backerman, says the 45-year-old entertainer was "full of emotion" over the show of support for him.

Jackson has been officially charged with seven counts of child molestation on a boy under 14, and two counts of plying him with alcohol in order to take advantage of him. Jackson is due in court on January 16.
