District attorney answers most frequently asked questions
By The Associated Press
Santa Barbara County District Attorney Thomas Sneddon issued on Thursday responses to what he said were the most frequently asked questions he has received from the media. His "Media FAQ:"
---
Q: Is your investigation of Michael Jackson continuing as we speak?
A: Yes.
Q: Why did Jackson have to be handcuffed? Did you think he was dangerous?
A: I was not present or involved in the arrest arrangements. My understanding is that this is standard procedure for every case.
Q: Is it true, per Jackson family accusations, that Santa Barbara authorities mistreated Michael Jackson during the arrest and booking?
A: That is not true. Jackson's attorney was present and in fact has been complimentary about the way things were handled.
Q: Is Michael Jackson a flight risk? If so, $3 million seems hardly adequate. If he is not a flight risk, then why is he not?
A: Some say that $3 million bail is too little; some say it is too much. Others say no amount could stop him if he decided to run. The judge thought this amount was fair and reasonable.
Q: What is the timetable from this point forward?
A: The next step is the arraignment in January. Anything beyond that would be pure speculation.
Q: Will reporters be allowed in the courtroom? Will there be live TV coverage inside the courtroom?
A: This is a judicial decision, but some restrictions will be required due to child witnesses.
Q: Will the case be tried in Santa Maria?
A: Yes, unless a court determines otherwise.
Q: Will Michael Jackson testify?
A: That is a defense decision.
Q: What if the child refuses to testify, like the alleged victim of 10 years ago?
A: This will not be an issue. The family is committed to this process.
Q: Will the child be on the stand?
A: Yes, at the trial.
Q: According to a confidential memo, the DFCS in Los Angeles called accusations of child molestation against Michael Jackson "unfounded." Does that undermine your case? If not, how does your investigation differ from theirs?
A: The DFCS conducted interviews, not an investigation. As previously noted, we were aware of their report prior to seeking the search and arrest warrant.
Q: The mother is getting trashed in the media. Is she credible like you insist?
A: Yes, she is credible. But one should not lose sight that children are the victims here.
Q: You say that the victim's family is not in it for the money. What is keeping them from bringing suit later? Wouldn't a conviction in a criminal trial help them in any efforts to win money from Jackson?
A: They have said repeatedly that they are not interested in money.
Q: Has any party pressured you to drop the case?
A: No.
Q: The song "D.S." from Michael Jackson's 1995 album "HIStory" is widely considered to be a protest against you. What are your thoughts about that?
A: Michael Jackson is a talented artist. That song was not one of his finer efforts.
Q: Are you planning to write a book about your experience in this event?
A: No.
Q: According to reports, you are planning to retire as district attorney? Are you interested in higher office? Wouldn't a victory over Michael Jackson be an excellent political steppingstone?
A: I am retiring and not planning a second career. I am going to relax and enjoy my family.
Q: It has been reported that you have a grudge against Michael Jackson for eluding trial 10 years ago. How do you feel about that?
A: It is not true. I wrote no books and steadfastly refused interview opportunities.
Q: Do you plan to take Michael Jackson's children away?
A: That investigation will be conducted by another agency. We will not be involved. As I stated earlier, we will conflict out if our services are requested.
Q: Why did you feel the need to bring in a public relations agency? Is this proof that you're "playing to the media?"
A: Tellem Worldwide is simply coordinating press relations and working as a liaison with the media. The media requests were overwhelming my office. It was impossible to respond to them all and very hard to get other important work done.
Q: We saw the Jackson family defend Michael Jackson on 20/20 virtually unchallenged. Were you asked to appear or respond - if yes, why did you not choose to appear?
A: The media has been generous in their offers. I have declined to do interviews. I have no specific recollection of being offered to appear on 20/20.
 Ahora el muy hijo de put se mete a critico musical... :meparto:
